Matthew 18:1-6, 10-14

Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.

A New Arrival

Heaven's nursery was indeed in a flurry of activity.  Grandma angels flittered here and there making sure everything was in the best condition it could be.  "Miriam, perhaps the floor could be swept once more" "Ana, are those silken sheets on the cradles mattress yet?"  "Mary, did you just take that last stitch on that beautiful quilt? What a work of perfection.  Just look at the scallops that travel around each side!"  "Shall we add another log to the fireplace?  Is it warm enough?" "We'd best make sure that rocking chair doesn't squeak!" The conversations continued on and on, bouncing across  each space of the room.  At last this special category of angels seemed content.  They settled their wings into place behind them and stood as a group humble and waiting.  They knew they'd been created to be of service to the Lord, and that is what they had strove to do this date.  Now the task was complete.

A soft tap came against the door and the Savior walked in.  Oh how His face glowed and what a wonderful sight to see the smile upon it.  In his arms rested a happy cooing infant.  "Grandmothers, I'd like to introduce our newest arrival.  His earthly parents have placed him in our care.  I see you are ready, so I present to you ~~ Philip!"  The angels could control themselves no longer. They gathered about the Lord and the remarks were excited and happy that again filled the air.  "Oh my, look at that hair"  "Beautiful eyes and aren't those the sweetest ears" "I believe he smiled at me" "Such perfect fingers and toes"  "He is just wonderful"  "May I rock him first"  "No, let me"  "No...me, let me!"

Now the Lord raised a hand to invoke silence.  He looked down with love upon the tiny Philip. "I believe I shall take the first turn.  I understand how eager you all are.  Remember that he will have eternity here."  Having said so, he picked up the quilt, placing within its soft folds~~ the baby.  Now he sat down in the rocking chair.  He placed Philip upon his warm chest and began to rock him.

In the outer hall that housed the nursery, a chorus of angels could be heard.  Now they sang...."Lullaby and good night.  May God's angels watch 'or you.  Lullaby and good night.  May you sleep, oh so tight
